Rowan is a young mole whose comfortable life in his clan's tunnels is interrupted by a sadistic tyrant who vows to take control of the ground which Rowan lives. After escaping the tyrant's ruthless claws, Rowan journeys to where no mole has gone before- the surface, in order to find aid in saving his people, not knowing that along the way, he will find himself as well.
